Four Areas to Optimal Health
1. Biological Health
Optimal health is more than the absence of disease. It includes prevention care and individual investment in your personal wellbeing. Signs of ill health may include pain, sleep difficulties, weight gain or loss, digestive issues, diabetes, thyroid and hormonal imbalance to name but a few. We believe in collaborative care and will work with your GP, or any other chosen health care professional that may be supporting you.
2. Psychological Health
Psychological health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Psychological health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
We are trained in a range of therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Clinical Hypnotherapy and Personal Integrated Therapy (how food and exercise affects mood).

3. Social Health
We are social beings. People and connection with others is a fundamental human need and greatly influences our quality of life, our mental, emotional and physical health. Often, we draw on our social circle for support. We know social isolation can lead to depression. A recent publication by Dr Michelle H Lim (Maps) has identified loneliness as the next public health epidemic of the 21st century. She explains that many of us feel disconnected from others and that this loneliness is associated with poor physical and mental health.
We all need a sense of purpose and meaning in our life. Social connection is intrinsic to our wellbeing, helping to define who we are and to create a life of meaning. That’s why our mission is to create a hub where we can connect as a community. We offer ‘workshops’ and ‘funshops’ and opportunities for networking and get togethers. These include film nights around social impact issues with refreshments and discussions, as well as opportunities to meet people in our yoga and other well-being classes.

4. Lifestyle and Environment
Our lifestyle habits impact our wellbeing. Healthy habits such a good night’s sleep, being in nature, a bit of exercise and sunlight, can help us to feel happy, energetic and clear of mind.
Developing a realistic schedule to fit into our busy lives is important. Research shows us that as little as 12 minutes of direct sunlight in the middle of the day can assist with the production of vitamin D which may help our mood. Similarly, 30 minutes of exercise a day can help to reduce depression and anxiety symptoms. By limiting our screen time, you can find the time to have a healthier happier you!!
Here at The Wellnest we are committed to be environmentally friendly. Our mission is to tread gently on the planet, to go paperless, to minimise the use of plastic, to recycle whatever we can. We have scheduled regular clothes swapping, electrical good swapping and toy swapping events at our clinic, keep up to date on our Facebook page.
